5 November 2007 marked the dawn of a new progressive era for the world’s smartphone market. It was the day the Android operating system (OS) officially unveiled itself for distribution. Four years after going public, Android has gone on to become the world’s best-selling smartphone operating platform, thanks in part to the founding of the Open Handset Alliance – an outfit of 80 hardware, software and telecom companies dedicated to the advancement of open standards for mobile devices.

 

Downloadable in 131 countries, Android apps presently number at over 294,000 (mid-2011 figures), with an exponential growth curve predicted in the coming years. The signs are clear. App developers have finally come to grasp with Android’s growing popularity among smartphone users, and they are acting swiftly to establish themselves in what they foresee to be a major future playing field.

 

AMU’s profile

The AMU project was initiated by a group of like-minded individuals who saw potential amassing within Android. They were certain it was only a matter of time before its popularity would burst forth into a flood of apps as savvy developers hope to secure a slice of the Android pie – still growing at a rapid pace.

 

AMU’s founders have drawn up the blueprints of an interdependent structure – the AMU Ecosystem – consisting of three distinct divisions.
